From Sketch to Reality: Kirsti's Bespoke Story

Location SCOTLAND Style VINTAGE WEDDINGS

Every bespoke gown begins with a beautiful design. Kirsti came to her first consultation with a stunning concept sketch and a few images of the detailing she desired. The style of her gown was reflective of classic vintage glamour, exaggerating her hourglass shape & combined high quality silks with delicately beaded lace. She got married in September in the beautiful setting of the Ghillie Dhu in Edinburgh.

The Fabrics

We sourced a selection silk satin crepes and a variety of laces for her neckline and cuffs for her to consider. The chosen crepe satin had a classic sheen and provided a luxurious drape for the skirt. We selected a warm ivory that complimented her own skin tone and lace.

Kirsti LOVED lace! She wanted something of unique design, delicately beaded with a vintage twist. Once chosen, the lace trim was shaped around her neckline and stitched onto illusion tulle, creating this breathtaking neck detail and cuffs. We loved her choice, it worked perfectly!

The Design

The initial mock up was fitted to her figure and then style lines drawn onto her skirt and bodice. She wanted each style line positioned to enhance her hour glass shape. The corset style bodice pulled in her waist and the curved lines on the skirt shaped her hips perfectly! The external corset was created by encasing the boning in satin and carefully stitching it to the outside of the gown.

It is important, especially with petite brides, to ensure the proportions of a fishtail gown are perfect to ensure it elongates the figure. The combination of the continuous lines down Kirsti's skirt with the fullness introduced just above her knee and flowing into her long dramatic train worked beautifully. Every NutMeg bride is guided through the mock up process with professional advice on hand to help you with all design decisions!

The Final Gown

Once all the design decisions had been made it was just the finishing detailing and styling left! Kirsti choose handmade silk covered buttons & loops to finish off the back and cuffs of her gown.

She looked simply stunning on the day, styling her gown with vintage red lipstick, birdcage veil and pearl bracelet!

Kirsti: "I could not recommend NutMeg Couture enough, the one to one service was stress free and so much fun, I was involved in every aspect of designing my dream dress, and it was PERFECT!"

Thank you Kirsti and William for sharing your special day with us!
